100. A truly special number. A number to celebrate! And for many people, age 100 is when the fun begins! You’re a centenarian now. You’re in triple digits. In 2012 over 316,000 people were in this magical age group. With all the improvements in medical science, estimates are that the current generation of babies born will have a full third of them reach this milestone.
Did you know the Guinness Book of Records says that the oldest author to have their first book published was Bertha Wood, who published her book Fresh Air and Fun: The Story of a Blackpool Holiday Camp at age 100? It was her memoirs. So if you’re currently 100 years old, you could get into the book of world records by working on your book now and releasing it at age 101!
Look up Frank Shearer. At age 100 he loves to water ski and ride horses. By staying active throughout his life he kept his body healthy. He’s a retired physician, so he had some training in how to do that!
The Bonus Years
Here on this site we not only are inspired by those who came into their own at age one hundred. We also keep in our memories those whose lives ended when they were only one hundred. It reminds us that our days ahead are precious. They are a blessing. They are golden time that others would have fervently wished for.
Bob Hope
Think of all the amazing things Bob Hope is known for. He was a dancer, singer, actor, comedian, and even a boxer. He did numerous shows with Bing Crosby. He was active on the USO circuit. He was active right through his later years. It was only pneumonia which finally took him down.
